Windsor Sack Back Chair
.jpg) This is the most recognizable style of Windsor chairs. This chair first appeared during 1760’s and continued its popularity for the next 50 years. Both the arm and the back bow are each steam-bent from one piece of wood. The back spindles run the full length from the seat, through the arm, then up to the back bow. The spindles are glued and wedged into the back bow. According to folklore a cloth sack was placed over the back of the chair to protect the sitter form cold drafts, thus the name Sack-back.
