The Continuous Arm Chair is an American innovation; it had no counterpart in Europe. It was developed in the New York City area during the 1780’s. It is an elegant looking chair and represents a high point in the eighteenth century chairmaking craft. One piece of wood is steam bent in two different directions to form the back and the arms, thus the name continuous arm. This chair is a good choice for the ends of a kitchen or dining room table when paired with the Oval Back side chair on the sides of the table.
